#23 Cracker Barrel
This year, I'm going to spend 31 days writing about places. In my profession, I talk about place-based writing quite a bit. I frame it like this when I share: We believe in the power of including spaces in the process of writing. Place-based writing is the concept that the place where we write may influence our thinking, impacting the writer’s perspective, engagement, ownership, and/or purpose. I'm really jazzed up, thinking about where I will spend time as a writer in 31 different spaces this month and how I can use each post to share a little slice of my day.
Today, Cracker Barrel.
It's my first day of spring break. I met a long-time buddy for breakfast.
We ordered nearly everything on the menu and shared a bunch of tiny plates. It was delightful. Biscuits and Gravy. Hashbrown Cassrole. Sliced Tomatoes. French Toast. Chicken Fried Chicken (I know!... what even is this?).
Though I'm not really ready to share our conversation so publicly, the 45 minutes or so that we spent together has sat with me all day. She's a say-it-to-you-straight kind of friend, and I think I really needed that today. She saw me in a way that I never would have seen myself, and honestly? what a gift is that?
Some silly French toast and a friend with perspective can bring you peace in a way that no other experience may have. Thankful for Cracker Barrel today. Lol.
