#31 The Writing Classroom

This year, I'm going to spend 31 days writing about places. In my profession, I talk about place-based writing quite a bit. I frame it like this when I share: We believe in the power of including spaces in the process of writing. Place-based writing is the concept that the place where we write may influence our thinking, impacting the writer’s perspective, engagement, ownership, and/or purpose. I'm really jazzed up, thinking about where I will spend time as a writer in 31 different spaces this month and how I can use each post to share a little slice of my day.

Today, my classroom.

The National Writing Project is known for its Institute.  I co-direct the St. Louis area Writing Project, Gateway Writing Project, and teach our Institute.  It is my absolute favorite course in the whole wide world.  If you live in StL, you should learn more about it here.  One of my favorite parts of the course is that we all write and publish/share.  Last night was our turn to present a digital piece of writing.

Because I've been crafting this digital writing all month, I turned it into a snazzy little clickable calendar (seen below) and let the group choose the dates they wanted to hear me read aloud.  It's been so much fun to have the Two Writing Teachers Community as readers this month, and it was equally fun to share these posts with my smaller in-person writing community.  It was a great night hearing so many amazing pieces from my colleagues, and it's been a great month reading so many of this community's posts.

Something about this challenge brings a bit of respect for humanity to me.  I love the reminder of the little slices that make us each who we are... till next year!
