Slice #6 Fish Fry

This year, I'm going to spend 31 days writing about places.  In my profession, I talk about place-based writing quite a bit.  I frame it like this when I share:  We believe in the power of including spaces in the process of writing.  Place-based writing is the concept that the place where we write may influence our thinking, impacting the writer’s perspective, engagement, ownership, and/or purpose.  I'm really jazzed up, thinking about where I will spend time as a writer in 31 different spaces this month and how I can use each post to share a little slice of my day.

Today, my local Mexican Fish Fry.

My slice is more like a fourth of the pie today.  I arrived at fish fry at 4:05.  It is 7:15, and I just got home.  Yes, you stand in line for this fish fry for almost three hours... and, I arrived way before it even opened.

But, tradition.

And also, the food.  Fish fry is a hot event in St. Louis.  St. Cecelia really is the best food you can find.

My slice is full of canned beer, live music, live dancing, a whole lot of chit-chat while standing in line, and some random run-ins I didn't expect on my Friday night.

Good slice.  Five stars.  Will slice again.
