#7 Costco
This year, I'm going to spend 31 days writing about places. In my profession, I talk about place-based writing quite a bit. I frame it like this when I share: We believe in the power of including spaces in the process of writing. Place-based writing is the concept that the place where we write may influence our thinking, impacting the writer’s perspective, engagement, ownership, and/or purpose. I'm really jazzed up, thinking about where I will spend time as a writer in 31 different spaces this month and how I can use each post to share a little slice of my day.
Today, Costco.
I've been traveling the last three days, and I'm wiped! Luckily, weekends are generally for rejuvenating. We have a pretty healthy habit for rest on the weekends. Yet, today we went to Costco.
I think it could be pretty easy to get stressed at Costco. The amount of people is overwhelming and it's pretty easy to get overstimulated. But not us. We strolled leisurely, poked around at cheeses. Bought what David refers to as personal sized watermelons as well as bird seed and dishwasher pods... all the things I think are actually cheaper than what I will scoop up at Aldi this week. He even treated me to the $1.50 hot dog lunch.
I covered mine in ketchup and ate it in the car. And though a bun is not a slice, it's a nice little glimpse at my day through the lens of place. I love that we have found a way to make anything less stressful if it is happening on the weekend and that you can turn Costco into a little day date adventure. Cheers to rest and finding it in all the places!
