#9 My Office
This year, I'm going to spend 31 days writing about places. In my profession, I talk about place-based writing quite a bit. I frame it like this when I share: We believe in the power of including spaces in the process of writing. Place-based writing is the concept that the place where we write may influence our thinking, impacting the writer’s perspective, engagement, ownership, and/or purpose. I'm really jazzed up, thinking about where I will spend time as a writer in 31 different spaces this month and how I can use each post to share a little slice of my day.
Today, my office!
It may seem strange to begin by sharing about a place that is NOT my office, but knowing a bit about my nature is what makes my office kind of shocking.
My nature is to be very tidy. My nature is to declutter to the max. My nature is a place for everything and everything in it place. If my house is not in order, I'm usually not in order.
Somehow though, my office is almost always total chos. See below.
And yet, I couldn't wait to get here today! I think it's that the stack of boxes, the stacks of books, and the variety of things on wheels mean that I'm coordinating something for someone somewhere. These boxes rotate constantly. I'm like the middle man that hands out stuff that makes teaching life and writing life better.
This is the tiny little space where I coordinate spreading joy. And that's really nice... even if it's really messy.
